Zimbabwe — West
Mana Pools, Hwange and the Zambezi
Mana Pools is one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations — and for birders, the reliable home of African Pitta. The floodplain pools and riverine forest along the Zambezi attract an astonishing variety of species, and the proximity of large mammals adds an atmosphere that intensifies every encounter. Walking and canoeing are central to the Mana experience, making it unlike any other camp-based destination on the continent.
Hwange National Park completes the western circuit, adding dry-country raptors, Kori Bustard and a spectacle of elephants at the waterholes that is among Africa’s most dramatic wildlife sights. The Zambezi National Park near Victoria Falls provides additional riparian forest. A dedicated western Zimbabwe itinerary runs 5–7 days.
