The Tour

The Indian Ocean’s Most Urgent Birding Destination

Réunion is where urgency meets beauty. The Réunion Cuckooshrike numbers fewer than 100 breeding pairs — one of the rarest birds in the world — and the Mascarene Petrel approaches unicorn status among seabirds. The active volcano of Piton de la Fournaise provides a dramatic backdrop to highland forests that hold several island endemics found nowhere else on earth.

We focus itineraries on the highland forests above 1,000 metres for the Cuckooshrike and the endemic Réunion Grey White-Eye, and Réunion Bulbul, with pelagic time for the Mascarene Petrel and Barau’s Petrel, and upland wetlands for the Réunion Harrier. Time spent here feels genuinely significant. 5–7 days is our standard recommendation.
